Why a public debate?

It is one of the duties of PMC’s administration to prepare various reports on behalf of its citizens. If citizens have doubts about the genuineness of a report, the civic administration is answerable to us. And it is our responsibility to ask questions, to raise doubts and most importantly to understand the processes by which the development in our city is shaped.
Our job as a citizen does not stop after voting. It actually begins….

Democracy runs smoothly when there is public participation in governance. A healthy dialogue amongst the elected representatives, administration and citizens paves a way for Good Governance.

This debate will discuss issues concerning the ESR such as the ways and means of documenting the current status of Pune’s environment, the effect of development policies and citizen’s participation in preparing the ESR.

The debate is not to unreasonably raise doubts about or criticise the administration. It is intended to understand their perspective while preparing a report which in our view is incorrect. It is intended to create consensus and to create a transparent dialogue among the citizens, administrators and the elected representatives.
