Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) approved the Environment Status
Report 2011-12 recently, on 5th
September, 2011.
(The Environment Status Report (ESR) is a document
that is published annually by the PMC since the last 15 years)
When the ESR
should tell us about the status of environment in a transparent and straight
forward manner, this report paints a rosy picture of the environment and
obscures the reality.

By accepting
the report as is, we endorse the view that Pune city’s environment is healthy,
safe and protected. And that is something that we, as concerned citizens of the
city, should NOT do.
To
communicate our views about the ESR to its authors and reach an agreement about
how the ESR should be prepared, this public debate is being organised between
citizens and the administration. Mr. Naresh Zurmure, Additional Commissioner of
PMC, has agreed to participate in the debate on behalf of the administration.
The
Additional Commissioner has given the assurance that the debate will feed into
the making of the new ESR.
